Why do I support the cause?

Its easy to answer this one five years ago my cutting tea came in two rupees and now it takes four rupees.If I eat out my bills are at ridiculous levels and everything i have gained in terms of appraisals is making no change in my savings.I did not get any appraisal last year as they cited recession but prices heard of no recession and they kept rising.And even after miserably failing to control prices now government wants to practice sound economics and this is not acceptable at least not to me.This decision to raise petro-product prices will have a cascading effect to prices of essential commodities.

Will there be bad effects to economy if prices are not raised?

There may be, we may have large fiscal deficit.Do we stand to gain anything if this fiscal deficit comes down?I have my serious doubts, all extra money will go down the corruption drains.I feel more money in hands of middle class will help India grow better, we will invest in education of future citizens(our children),in infrastructure(houses) .Extra money will also fuel demand for goods which will produce more jobs.
Now a few of economists are going around saying that if prices are not raised we will have to pay more taxes. We have been living with subsidies for so long are we paying more.The answer is a no in fact we are paying less and no one should be worried we can always have another Bandh.

Have all other methods been exhausted?

I feel all other ways have been exhausted media has highlighted it ,political parties have raised it in parliament.There have been silent protests.So what happened ,absolutely nothing.The government always puts in a speaker or two who will blame opposition parties that they had raised the prices in their time.In end nothing happens.And now I have a feeling that they have become arrogant.Manmohan Singh has done nothing as a prime minister just close your eyes and name a few you wont remember many.He did a great job as finance minister,but as prime minister his only contribution is that he was not interfering with corporates and working class.

Is Bandh the only way?

Nine years ago I was part of a big strike against my university.The university had failed a lot of guys(I was lucky to have passed in all the subject) ,so we sent delegations to vice chancellor to conduct a few extra exams and give every one a second chance.The vice chancellor making a mockery of us said this will happen only when one of you is made a VC and were driven out of university by security guards.Some guys started sloganeering and I had lost my mind so i picked up a half brick and threw it at a truck and it triggered an action.That day students went on rampage and burned three buses and a lot of damage to property.Police chased us in the city and I caught the first train out of it.The very next day we got Extra exams.We may have been wrong at that time it is not a justifiable cause as the present one, but it works.

What about damage?

This is the tricky part.Well most of the things(cars buses) are ensured and they will be paid out.People doing bandhs should take care that they do not hurt anyone.

Now most of bandh calls are ineffective in Mumbai.So its better to check the conditions(watch tv,call friends) if the situation is not favorable one should also be very careful while venturing out.No one is going to give you medals for reaching office so dont go if its not necessary. If its necessary go before bandh starts.Take your lunch as you wont find any shops open.

Now some people have asked so what will bandh do,well nothing if government is not sensitive.Though this will ensure that they wont raise the prices again in near future.And before next elections they will withdraw it.Though another bandh would have got the action done much faster but this would be bad for economy.

I am no hockey guy ,but one thing i noticed was that where ever the ball went there was an australian player there and Indians were struggling to get past these guys . This could be anything stamina, technique I dont know but it seemed visible.

Indians should now take a goodnight’s sleep,put this defeat behind them and come up strongly in next match.

But today i felt same madness coming back someone shouted in office that Sachin is on 182 and suddenly i started cricinfo ,it was slow.then i started four other websites rediff ,indiatimes and yahoo.Can say yahoo was faster than others.In 190s one of younger colleagues came to seek some help,I snapped at him and then i realised that yes i am again getting excited after a long time.It took a long time to reach 200 and it was getting really frustrating that dhoni was not giving strike to sachin and i believe i started really cursing him.But in end everything ended well.

It is a great innings and as they say and i agree that sachin is god of cricket.

Mumbai has again gone into festive mood, after the dahi handi(krishna Janma ashtami) ,its time for the festival of most beloved god of mumbai ganesh .In mumbai i like this festival a lot along with navratris.The most famous ganpati in mumbai is Lalbaug Cha Raja .

When i was studying in NCST ,juhu.I had a chance to go to the main wisarjan ghat girigaum chaupatii ,it was sheer madness huge crowd was there there was lot of enthusiasm .Then for two years in vashi my place was near to the lake where they did the wisarjan,so we would go and stand and watch till it was over.Beautiful marathi women, children dressed in their traditional attire would be sitting in open truck and giving out prasad. I am not sure if i will be going any place this time round but if i go I will surely post pictures.

Last time when I had gone home I met a distant relative and she asked What type of girl you are looking just tell me .You want working, non working, whatever you say. I really started believing that this lady is a real wizard and I just I have to give my demand and she would just assemble what exactly I wanted. What a great thing it would have been but I think real life does not work that way. But still lets jot down the points that I am looking for may be I really get someone and then I would not waste time on thinking .

1.Appearance:

The most important factor ,I have seen many liberal persons saying they don’t look for outward beauty. But you would rather find out that these persons usually either marry the most beautiful girl or have very beautiful wives. So the choice naturally should have be a very beautiful girl but I know the problem is that I have seen what happens when you have a have a very beautiful girlfriend. The first thing that you are going to hear “Langur ke muh ke mein angoor”. And type of extreme nature I posses ,I would be reduced to a situation best defined from the song “Pichhle saat dinon mein”.

“Kabhi kudh pe hasha main aur kabhi kudh pe roya”

And yes we have to factor in my appearance so we will settle for a good looking girl. Secondly the skin color .There is an obsession among us Indian men for the “gori chitti larki”, I believe I don’t mind that thing a lot .If I have a choice I would like to have a girl with big eyes .The reason for this is that my eyes are really small and I would like my children to have a chance to big eyes. What else I don’t have much of a choice on this factor.

2.Intellect:

The jury is out I don’t think anyone is really interested in marrying a highly intellectual girl if given a choice .They would rather marry a dumb person. As for me I don’t want a dumb person but certainly don’t want someone who is going to debate with me on every point and make my life hell. You all would have by now start detesting me but I would tell you not to make an opinion until you read out my experience.

Well one of my friend was exactly of this quality that is an intellect and she knew so many things and she always had an opinion about just everything. I think I went to some shop with her either I had to buy shampoo or bread I don’t clearly remember. So I went in the shop I picked up what was nearest and as soon as I picked it up she gave me a lecture on what was wrong with that thing .So I did what came naturally to me .I kept it back. And as soon as I did that she gave me a lecture for next 10 minutes on what was good in that. So what did I do ,again what came naturally to me, I shouted at her and asked her to decide weather to take it or not. And what came next any guesses well she shouted back another lecture why short temper is not good for health. By that time a crowd had gathered and I didn’t wanted to preached in public by a girl so I picked the next in line paid my bill without even listening to what she was saying.

So for me a person with right amount of brains would be good enough.

3.Working or Non Working:

Working not much of a choice over there .Though most of my cousins prefer the other way round .But I feel that any individual should be independent enough to make decisions right for them.

4 Nature:

I am confused on this one never ever gave a deep thought on this, though I have interacted with a myriad type of personalities.

Recently we were having the bachelor’s party for ex manager ,he told us about the why he wanted a livein relation. I was really impressed by the reason he gave and now I am also thinking in that direction . Though I know it is going to be difficult ,first I don’t feel I will get a girl ,secondly my family would disown me . But yet lets hope for the best, I have started preparation from my side I am going to run this years marathon and would start training shortly. No I am not looking to find a girl over there instead it will help me pull back my weight by 4-5 kg .

So now you know what I am looking for if you find someone do tell me.

When I was young I had a violent nature .Once one of my home tutors picked up a notebook and hit me ,I believed in newton’s theory and added a bit to it and threw a book on him.After that there was commotion, my mom came in and sent both of us away.She tried a lot to make me apologize but I believed that he had asked for it so no question of apologizing .So end result ,Mom fired the tutor and told me she will never keep a tutor for me ever after. Well bad luck ! only if I had known ,I would have done it earlier.

There is an interesting incident ,most of us would have faced .A teacher correcting your homework with you standing there and she says you have written this spelling wrong.Fine till now, she has got good eyes. And then she will say and again its wrong ,this time shouting. Can you imagine my thoughts ,’Moron ,if i had known the correct spelling ,have you bitten me that I would write it wrong in first place’. There would be many such incidents like they give you such un-innovative punishment like write it down hundred times that ‘I will not do it again’.As hell I wont, but yes I wont be caught.What good such a punishment will do all the words in that sentence are easy.I

Its not that I hate all Teachers ,I really like the Teachers wine .And also I like the hotties from my engineering days ,my college recruited college pass outs (dot com burst had left them with no other option).One of them the mechanical engineer lecturer was so hot that we started calling her thermo mam .One of them who taught us in third year was real bomb and guess what she always had complete attendance .She was always wearing designer dresses and throughout her class we were doing nothing but ogling her and she knew and it seems she was ok with it.She left soon to join another college and there she was made warden of boys hostel,lucky fellows. I love such teachers.

When I had come to mumbai five years ago it was on 31st July,2004 stark in middle of the heaviest part of rainy season. Where ever you went there was just water.If you are walking on any road you see swarm of umbrellas.The best part of this was that these umbrellas did not protect you much ,below waist you will always be wet even if there was a small amount of rain.I believe raincoats are a better option.So i asked one of my local friends how come we do see so few rain coats and if not why are we having even umbrellas.Well he said for second part Umbrellas are for head and for first raincoats inhibits you mobility in crowded local trains,people would not let you board with a dripping raincoat, and later it becomes habit.Well only part which seemed to be holding merit to me was habit. In spite of all odds ,water logging ,slow trains,continuous rains there was something remarkable Mumbai never stopped, it just went on its daily routine.The point was if it was going to rain for three months they would not be waiting inside for it to stop ,it is bad for business.

I was awestruck with spirit of mumbai.City that never stops or sleep.I also got a umbrella and joined its faceless mass of people .That was in year 2004,then in 2005 came 26/7 deluge it caused severe damage not only to properties and lives of people but also psyche of mumbai. 644 mm (25.4 inches) was received within the 12-hr period between 8am and 8pm,almost full years’ rain in twelve hours. Every thing was flooded ,none of the local trains worked buses were marooned .Water was as high as second floor in many places.The Mithi river (If you see it in any other season it looks like a drain) had over flown and destroyed everything that came its way.The biggest issue that has taken place that a fear has come ,people have become careful. If trains becomes late by fifteen minutes my team members start asking weather they may leave and we have instruction from management to not stop anyone.Its good in a way but I am unhappy that the basic character of city is undergoing a negative change.People before going to office on a high tide day do check on television channels (not local channels ,it makes prime time news of national private news channel, anyways no one watches Doordarshan (the national channel)) and venture out only if everything is fine.

2.Weather Prediction:

Weather predictions has become a laughing stock in mumbai ,I am not sure weather they look in their systems before making predictions or just make them just by watching the sky.Every prediction they make has failed ,if they say its going to rain well there is no rain in fact there is sun in its force.One day they predicted today it would rain with high winds and of course it didnt rain.They said rains are going to hit only after one week and that day it rained like anything.I think last week on thursday it rained like anything by two everything stopped .Most of the people had left around two and a few from far off places had decided to stay back at office.Weather at three came out with prediction that there will be high tide at 4:45 and it will rain heavily for next 48 hrs, and finally i thought that atleast this cannot go wrong .At hearing this one my colleague who had stayed back started packing ,So i said that high tide is coming its better to stay back.She said ‘Oh not an issue! it wont rain in some time met has predicted’,what a confidence .And guess what everything was working by 6:30,it was raining but it was no more then a drizzle. Alas we have come to analyze their predictions correctly.

3. High Tides:

This is a simple phenomenon where water level from sea rises and the problem is that it closes the flood gates in mumbai thus not allowing rain water to flow back in the sea.So when this combines with heavy rains you can imagine the havoc it causes.In 2009 high tides are expected on.

Bmc is closing schools on 24th July, so be careful .

I hope that BMC and maharashtra government is doing something to take care of flooding issues .Rains you cannot stop and it did not hampered any work the problem is flooding.Deluge like 26/7 anyways is a helpless situation but hope that next time emergency services are in place.
